There is lots of activity in the library this year. We are participating in a project sponsored by Price Chopper called "Feeding the Reading Appetite".
Each grade is assigned a number of pages to read for the year as their goal. When the classroom reaches their goal, Price Chopper will pay for a party with a movie rental to celebrate their accomplishment. There are several choices for the party, such as:
Brain Freeze Movie Bash: This party includes Blue Bunny Ice Cream Novelties, Keebler Single Serve Cookies, Brawny Napkins or Paper Towels, Dansani Water and a Movie Rental.
Movie Madness: Pop Secret Popcorn, Frito Lay Variety Pack, Hershey's Snack Candy, Brawny Napkins or Paper Towels, Dansani Water and a Movie Rental.
Morning Move Snack Attack: Kellogg's Pop Tarts, Dannon Danimals, Brawny Napkins or Paper Towels, Dansani Water and a Movie Rental.
There are posters outside of the library which indicate each class grand total and on the library bulletin board is a running weekly total. All of the classrooms are working hard to reach their goal. Here is a list of what each grade needs to accomplish this:
Kindergarten, First Grade: 20,000
Second Grade - Fourth Grade: 30,000
Fifth Grade - Sixth Grade: 40,000
Seventh Grade - Eighth Grade: 60,000
Here are the totals for each class as of 11/24/08
Reynolds: 24,912
Prilliman: 17,457
Maurin: 35,612
Enright: 16,784
Kucharo: 19,369
Graham: 19,369
Denkler: 15,910
Wolfe: 12,026
Campbell: 10,927
Shomin: 10,915
Kraly: 6,662
Thurston: 9,675
We are counting the pages Mrs. Thurston reads to the her class for the kindergarten students.
Every child must pass an Accelerated Reader test with a score 0f 70% for the pages to count. We have lots of reading going on and many students have discovered great books and how much fun reading can be!
After Christmas, we are adding another incentive. Teachers and staff are going to jump into the competition. We will also have to pass an Accelerated Reader test on each book that is recorded. It should be fun!
Also wanted to mention that our school received copies of Junie B. Jones books from the First Book Foundation again this year.
These books went home with kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades.
Please stop by the library or email with any questions or comments.
